Ottoman census
As good historians, we do not at all wipe the slate clean of the past. In Greece, more particularly in Thessaly for our “local” case, we hardly forget, for example, the very long and trying period of Ottoman occupation, generally between 1420 and 1881, the year in which Thessaly was attached to the contemporary Hellenic State. Just as we do not omit in this regard to mention, or even to directly question, if possible, the direct Ottoman sources.

Arcadia
The Peloponnese, certainly much visited, is otherwise still part of the legend that is its own. Greece Otherwise privileges in some way its inland lands, its mountains and its rivers, first and foremost in high season. This is how we revisited Stemnítsa and its surroundings, in the heart of Gortynia and the regional district of Arcadia, a micro-region that takes its name from the ancient city of Gortyn.

Sites of memory
In the eyes of historians, “sites of memory” are everywhere, proof, if any were needed, that the memory of places is often more solid than the places themselves. This is what we verified during our trip to Central Thessaly, a region completely ignored by tourists, and sometimes even… forgotten by its own people.

Visit of Meteora
The Greek winter is dying quickly again this year, according to the unanimous affirmation of the moment, thus paraphrasing a talented spy and equally famous writer. End of February in the land of Zeus and it is already Spring, even under the rocks of the eternal Meteora. Visiting them at this time of year also avoids the usual crowds of the high summer season. This is exactly what we did, because “Greece Differently” is first and foremost for all times.

Spring Prelude
